April 15 I had a virtual interview with a company. I thought it went really well, but you know how it is. You never know…
This is not through a recruiting agency. It was a company with their own in house human resources, They were a little awkward during the interview with no questions prepared really. I could feel that they were just making it up as they were going along .
During the interview, they expressed how great my experience was . At the end of the interview, I gave gratitude and said I was looking forward to hearing from them. I forgot to ask what would be the timeline or next steps because usually I’m working with recruiters and they say that.
I sent a thank you letter the day after the interview. They did not reply.
I recall from when they set up my initial interview that they would be interviewing candidates through the 20th. It’s now the 27th and I haven’t heard anything. I get the feeling that maybe they are not interested in me, but I really would like to close the loop for my own peace of mind.
Is it appropriate to ask for a follow up or should I just let it go?
This is also making me question the purpose of sending thank you letters. I’ve never received a job where I have sent one. And I have received offers when I don’t send them.
Feel really a bit silly, when I send a thank you letter and I don’t receive even so much as an acknowledgment.
When I’ve been on the other side of the table and candidates have sent gratitude notes to me, whether or not I am giving them a job offer, I do tell them thank you and it was nice meeting them. I think people are mature enough to know, especially at my executive level that an acknowledgment of a thank you does not mean that we think we’re getting an offer.
