So, I had a phone interview this morning with a pest control company. The position was listed about an hour away which is a far commute but if you want a half decent position living in the sticks you have to be willing to drive.

I’m on the phone with the interviewer and she asks me where I’m located to make sure I’m in their hiring range and I was not. Not due to the hour commute though.

They listed the position in an area they happen to do work in on the edge of their range. Their main office you actually have to interview at as well as work out of mind you, is another 2 and a half hours in the same direction as where the listing was initially put. 3.5 hours from me.

So even if I lived within their “hiring range” where the position was listed that’s a 2.5hr commute for a position that paid 15 hourly starting full time.

I bring this up with the interviewer and obviously she’s not in charge of any of that but it’s a recorded line and it needs to be mentioned somewhere along the line and since I’m already out the position, I did.

Who in their right mind is commuting 2.5hrs for that? Who can afford that? I get they get a company truck eventually but that’s 5 hours on JUST commuting daily. Per day.

These companies are insane and job hunting today will make you just as insane.
