Looking for some advice. My partner and I rescued the sweetest Maine coon mix about 2 years ago. At the time, the rescue had labeled him not good with other cats.

Some backstory that’s relevant: our sweet boy lost his owner when they moved into a nursing home. After that, he went briefly to the owner’s child, who had several cats. He was only there a short time when he then was transferred to the humane society, we adopted him the day after he was surrendered.

Since then, he’s changed so much. He’s flourished into this sweet, playful boy. We have a 14 year old beagle he loves. His sister, the beagle, isn’t huge into playing though due to her age.

My question is this: he was labeled not good with other cats but he’s been incredible with my older dog. I also think him being bounced from place to place may have added to him not being comfortable around other cats. How would we test this safely? We want to get him a brother (especially when the inevitable happens with my beagle) but obviously we want to do this the right way.
