Is this a new thing that’s happening with rejection emails? I just made it to the final round at two different companies and both of them rejected me but BOTH said that the hiring manager said I’d be an excellent fit for (insert other very specific department/team at the organization) and asked if I would still consider them for a future role and if they could contact me.

I’m perfect for very specific roles that don’t even exist? It feels like a weird way to lead me on. Why not just say “if anything else comes up that matches we’ll contact you”. What even is this?

Is anyone else getting these and do they ever actually contact you for those roles?
