So a few weeks ago at the beginning of April I applied for a job at a big company and the process went super fast. From April 3rd to the 15th I was already at the 4th interview but when the round with the manager and the lead engineer came up I could tell the engineer was in a bad mood and upset. Every email up to that point had only come from the hiring manager and I had been getting automated replies that the engineer was on vacation. As soon as the interview started the engineer told me he had no idea who I was and that it was his first time even seeing my resume, that he had no clue they were even doing the interview. He had such a bad attitude. The questions weren’t even that hard but the vibe was totally off.
Afterwards HR asked me to reach out on the 23rd which I did but received no reply. Today HR emailed me to schedule a phone call and I honestly thought it might be for an offer but nope. It was just to let me know they were moving on and to keep applying if I saw something interesting in the future. They said the hiring manager and engineer gave no feedback at all as to why I wasn’t picked.
It was devastating because the job required no degree and 2 years of experience and I have a degree and 5 years as a lead. I was feeling hopeful because the hiring manager even mentioned he saw me in a senior role teaching. I really feel like I was set up by being the first one from all the interviews and with the engineer having that terrible attitude. It makes me feel even worse since so many other jobs are just automatically denying me or I only get an initial call with no actual interview scheduled :(
