The job posting didnt list a range, the HR didnt mention any budget. I gave my expectations and was told that only after a 2nd In-person interview round will they let me know about the salary.

Now for the In-person I have to travel really far with no public transport and so I simply said that I would like to know the budget and if my expectations can be met for which the HR just went “we will keep your candidacy on hold”

Was it that wrong to ask?
