Ive got a beautiful 8 month old kitten who’s such a good boy. He’s (pretty much) always used his litter box, he doesnt wake me up in the night, he doesnt bite or scratch (too much) and hes never even knocked something off the side!

The only issue I have is with his eating. He’s been on the same few wet foods for several months now and all was fine until a couple months ago. He’ll be eating fine for a few days then suddenly become picky, he’ll lick the jelly and beg for more or flat out refuse to eat a flavour that hes always liked. Then a day later he’ll be fine, til it happens again. He’s fine with his dry good but wet is his favourite, he only really has kibble as a dessert or quick nibble between meals or overnight.

Im probably not helping cos I give in far too often and give him fresh food or a new flavour when he squeaks at me. Ive tried so many different brands but he isnt very adventurous with new food (i know you have to introduce slowly). I trialled a higher quality subscription food last week which went relatively well - he eventually tried a few flavours when I put treats on top - so im going to keep going with that to see if we can switch and if it makes a difference

But in the meantime what should I be doing when he acts fussy like this? Should I just ignore/distract him when hes begging for fresh/different food, since I know its something he usually likes? I feel bad to do that and just need some reassurance its the right thing to do, if that is in fact the case.
