We have a 2 year old cat and last week she discovered the blinds letting in a strip of light onto the wall upstairs in the hallway.

Since then she has become obsessed with shadows on the walls and ceilings to the point that she lays in the upstairs hallway most of the time waiting for someone to walk by so they cast a shadow on the wall she can chase.

If she’s not there she’s on the cupboard above the fridge meowing and bapping at the air because there’s shadows on the ceiling. This is the one that worries me because more than once she’s perched on the edge and acted like she was going to jump at nothing…and it’s a long ways down from up there. She’s already hurt herself once before from jumping down off a high ledge and landing weird.

Anybody experience this? Just a phase? She seems completely uninterested in anything but shadows all the sudden. She hasn’t stopped eating or anything like that but her playing with any toys has stopped and it’s all about the shadows on the walls and ceilings.
