Hello! I have just had a super strange experience (for me, at least). I applied to be an engineer and made it all the way through the final round interview. The talent acquisition manager called me 2 weeks later and said they had other candidates that would be a better fit for the engineering role, but said that because of my personality and technical knowledge I would be better suited for a product management/specialist position so that I would be customer-facing and now I have an interview with the Product Manager to discuss more.

I’m not sure if I’m offended or flattered. The pay range seems comparable? But it’s a completely different trajectory for my career. Unsure how to feel about it, I think product management is more lucrative and might suit my personality better.

Are my odds for landing this other sales type position strong since I’ve been already vetted to be a good “personality hire” for it? Has this happened to anyone else?
