I applied for a director level position at a large company. It’s a bit of a stretch, not due to my skill level, but because I assume they likely have an internal candidate. There’s another position in the same division doing the same kind of work, but without the supervisory responsibilities and pay. It’s two levels down from the director position. I have half a mind to apply even though the pay is half of the director position to try to get my foot in the door and work my way up.
How “bad” does it look to apply for a much lower job when you’re aiming higher? I assume their system will flag that I applied for multiple roles (it’s through workday)?
I’d hate to get ghosted on the director position and give up my shot at the lower one if I wait too long, as I’d really like to work for this company. Any feedback you guys can offer would be great. I’m guessing I’ll need to choose.
