Trolley problem is one of those questions that has an artificial set of solutions. You’re being asked to pick a binary choice, when there’s more solutions if you’re not constrained.

Pull the lever when it’s at the switch to derail the trolley. Hop on and pull the brake. Call ahead to someone closer to the single person and have them pulled off the tracks.

There’s going to be a solution if you ever encounter it, just not a clear solution if you’re only looking at the problem exactly as presented with artificial boundaries. Especially if you’re using it as a metaphor for another issue that likely doesn’t have the time pressure of “speeding trolley”
