For me it’s the option to individually lock apps.

This is legit my thoughts for year, before I ever got an iPhone I had a pixel and the google assistant was crazy helpful, I’m deadass wondering why Apple doesn’t invest more into Siri

Would be nice if it actually answered question like Alexa instead of giving me web results. Can’t look up web results when I’m driving

Function in the car. I use her probably more than most for HomeKit functions and timers and stuff but when I’m in the car, half the time she tells me she can’t do that when I’m driving. Well shit, guess what I’m gonna do when I can’t use my virtual assistant in the car? I’m gonna pick up my phone at a red light and create a situation that a virtual assistant was specifically created to avoid.

Meanwhile the Alexa built into my Ford’s radio will happily give me encyclopedia answers to questions while driving to settle arguments/random questions on car rides. I asked it how much 10$ in 1975 is worth now (about $60) and it legit gave me an answer on my drive home.

I use Siri in my AirPods every day because I drive around for work and it’s horrible. She always asks if she should send texts before she repeats them (9 out of 10 times she hears me completely wrong and I have to attempt saying my text over and over), and never asks for confirmation before calling someone (I never use my phone for calls so it’s always awkward)

Last year I could control all of my lights quickly and reliably with:

“[Light Group] + [color] &/+ [two digit number for brightness]”

That is now broken and I have no clue how to get Siri to interact with my lights. I forgot what used to work because that broke two years ago and I smoke weed.

If it would understand me better. English is not my first language, and I have to say “hey siri” In a funny accent for it to actually active and listen to me🥲 and I would say my English is quite good and I speak it without a problem, but Siri seems to not like it still.

        Where do I start?

        1. If “hey Siri” would actually work

        2. If it would actually search the web when I ask questions it isn’t programmed to know

        3. If I didn’t have to repeat myself 20 times despite teaching it my voice and being 1 foot away from the phone.

Siri is basically a fancy timer setter for me, and even then I use Alexa if I’m in my house because it can do things like “add an extra minute to my timer.”

Couldn’t agree more on all points.

          • Actually dial who i Siri to dial and not bother my head of devops at 3am instead of my partner. Similarly sounding first names but very distinct surnames, i use the surnames in the request.

Point 4 though, same setup, no other music apps. I just push my voice button and say “play shut up by stormzy” or the kids might just ask for “play the hamilton soundtrack” and instantly get the playback.

Only thing I have to hard disagree with is 1)

I’ve put my phone in so many random places or it’s fallen off my bed or couch after a call (take a lot of conf calls there) that “hey siri” has saved my ass. Before hey siri I actually had to log in to some shady online service to dial my phone.

Now, with the existence of Chat GPT, they could easily integrate that with Siri like Microsoft is to their… well everything. It wouldn’t make her perfect, but she would be decent.

I’ve found, I think, that saying “hey Siri” often doesn’t work if I haven’t said it in a while. But not always. It seems it always works when I’m using it over and over for a while.

Siri was soooo good when it first released. Siri actually gave answers and not a web page to click on and didn’t take an eternity to set an alarm or struggle to play a song

ChatGPT is what Siri should have been.

I heard this somewhere on Reddit. I’m the next iteration they are expecting a personalized results and tasks execution like scheduling docs appointments, etc.

      Siri was so much better.

      It keeps getting worse.

I finally figured out a way to reliably control my home kit lights with Siri, and it’s broken on my brand new iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I wish I could set Siri on my iPhone to only listen to “Siri” and my HomePods to only listen to “Hey Siri”. Really annoying when I’m trying to ask Siri on my iPhone a request and my HomePod tells me it’s not able to do that for me. I know it’s not, I’m not asking you.

Could she though??? It’s not like they haven’t had ample time to work on it… It seems like Apple just doesn’t prioritize it, cuz it still feels like the same novelty feature they introduced 12 years ago.

I had a 1st gen iPad pro before an iPhone, and I liked how I could swipe down the top row of letters to input numbers. You could also do this with other keys for other symbols. I was so disappointed when I got an iPhone and saw you couldn’t do this with it.
