Iirc you can only cross post from the default web interface if the post is a url post.

If the post includes a url, tap the circled symbol, then pick the community.

If you are using an app it will vary from app to app. With Mlem it is an option when you share the post.

You can only crosspost posts with a link. That the “cycle” button at the bottom of your post :)

It was intended that way, so posts with the same link posted in community A and B merge comments from community A and B.

    That may change later.

There’s no way where l initiate a simple discussion on piefed and then crosspost it to a lemmy community ? Like it can be done on lemmy instances ??

No, not like lemmy sadly but there are two tricks :

        • Use a link as a placeholder. For example a picture to illustrate your text. a wiki link.
        • Use thunder mobile app, it can bypass piefed crosspost’s limitation

Do you know what Thunder is doing to bypass the crosspost limitation? They must be setting post url to something. Maybe the thumbnail image url?

If you know any cross posts that were created via this Thunder workaround, could you possibly link one? I would love to take a peek at the API response to see what’s going on.

Context, I’m the developer behind Blorp. If Thunder has some creative workaround, I might implement it in Blorp too

I meant, if you create a text post that you want to crosspost, remember piefed only activate crosspost when you share a link, the trick is finding a picture that illustrate using a link (not picture) for your text.

The second trick is using mobile app that don’t have piefed crosspost restriction.

I will do a demo on !playground@piefed.social and ping you :)
