I want to install a POE camera for watching my dog when I’m out of the house. However, I don’t want the camera constantly on/recording/on the network when I’m home. I don’t want to disconnect/reconnect the camera’s ethernet cable every time I leave, as the plan is to have it mounted flush to the wall with no visible wires. The cabling will run through the wall to the POE switch in another room. Basically I want something like this in the form factor of a wall plate light switch so I can just flip it on or off as I come and go.
Does such a product exist?
You can have an electrician run a switched or half-hot outlet, but that’s expensive. Or get a smart plug for the switch and connect it to Alexa or Google home and tell it to turn it on or off. Or one with a remote button like this but I’ve never tried one so can’t say how well it works.
