Honestly, humanities academia is frighteningly often… acrid in our disputes. I had two history professors who used to relay tales of heated exchanges in their fields at conferences when emphasizing that very little about history is ever truly ‘settled’, beyond the basic facts. And sometimes not even those.
I assume because of “Oral history?! Bah, nothing but stories and tales. Three guys have roughly the same diary entry? Now that’s FACT!”
Oh no, even 20th century history gets this treatment!
Oh no, even current events are getting this treatment.
