Not amanita though. No psilocybe looks like that. Also psilocybin/psylocin isn’t toxic. You wouldn’t believe though after having eaten one.

Vikings did go berserk on Amanita

Amanita is no good for those looking for a fun psychedelic trip, and can be quite dangerous. I really wish these types of memes would show Cubensis instead.

Intetesting read. I wouldn’t consume any amount of amanita or black hensbane and it certainly doesnt sound like they induce happiness. The deadly beauty of the Amanita flycap is its own misinformation I guess.

All true. But the psychoactive cacti of the new world all contain toxic alkaloids, and apparently the people in the cultures using them traditionally have developed genetic resistance to the toxicity lol.

I don’t get the impression that the fungi that produce psilocybin mushrooms don’t want us to eat them. Also, the fruiting body is a relatively short-lived portion of the organism. While eating them may interfere with reproduction if they haven’t released their spores yet, it won’t kill the mycelium.

Mushrooms always cooked my gut when I took them. 50/50 on if I would puke and I always had to take a nasty shit. They clearly do not want to be eaten

It can be a bit easier on the stomach if you grind them up, mix them with honey, and let them sit for a few hours or overnight. It also saves you the trouble of converting the psilocybin into psilocin internally.

I’m sure there are, but my understanding is that consciousness arises out of complexity (specifically of the brain,)

Consciousness is just an awareness of one’s self, as well as the environment they find themselves in. It’s not difficult to imagine why such awareness would impart an evolutionary advantage; and help individuals of a species being more successful.

Further, we see a range of consciousness, like sea sponges budding at the same time, in response to environmental conditions is indicator of some awareness, however basic.

A lot of things are across a wide spectrum of that, and we can generally place animals roughly along that spectrum by considering their complexity of their brain.

So I personally find that it’s psychedelics that are responsible, since may if the things we find high up in consciousness are things that would not have had access to them.
