Hello!

I’m looking for a new streaming device (I have been waisting away using an xfinity box for way too long).

With the 2nd gen being so close in price I feel like the 3rd gen is the way to go. And it seems like the 128gb is the best option with the addition of the ethernet connection + it only being 20 more dollars at the end of the day for twice the storage.

It seems like there aren’t too many screaming deals coming up at stores other then for the older HD models (I know I missed out on the Walmart/costco/etc the last few months with the 100 offers for the new/older 4k 😔✊) But on apples site it’s going for 130 referbished which isint so bad and obviously the best spot to get it used. Also the 50$ gift card option for buying it new on Black Friday.

which of those options would you say would be my best bet - Im not sure when I’ll be purchasing another apple product (in relation to the gift card) but I have a Mac for my audio/video production work and am thinking of switching to the iPhone with the 15 coming out (USB C finally 🥲). So I’m well on my way to the cult of apple ecosystem immersion lmao.

Or has anyone heard of a better deal coming along or currently running? Should I just wait it out a little longer? Etc.

Appreciate the help everyone!

Apple hardware generally lasts a long time. And the processor will keep you going for a while. So invest in a previous gen. Save some money. Avoid falling into the trap of the latest and greatest.

I’ve been using Apple TVs for years now. I just moved and upgraded my home theater as a result. The first purchase I made was the Apple TV 4K 128GB.

I had the same logic as you: it’s $20 more, so why not. I checked for price drops for over a month and nothing, so I just got it.

If the price is going to drop at all, it’ll be this week with Black Friday. I’ve never purchased refurbs from Apple, so I don’t have an opinion on that.

I can tell you that you made the right decision in choosing the Apple TV. You’ll see what I mean when you get it. You won’t be able to use another “smart” TV device again.

The extra $20 seems worth it! I’ve never had any storage issues in my Apple TV, but the added Ethernet port and the features it includes (Thread router and anything related to HomeKit Secure Video?) compared to the WiFi version are a no-brainer.

Regarding the refurbished options… I’m usually not a big fan of them for battery-based devices but for this one it could be an interesting option, IMO. Especially if you plan on hiding the device in a drawer or behind the TV (in case it presents any scratches).

I still have the previous version and you made me think about a way to upgrade myself. Thank you (although my wallet does not agree 😅)

Yeah that’s what I was thinking with the refurbished, always plugged in and most likely not on display anyway.

Tho- the 50 dollar gift card or another deal may persuade me to just get a brand new one, I’ll see where I’m at next week with the potential influx of consumerist advertising 🦃.

Lmao - well Im glad I could point out a deal For you - apologies to your wallet 🙃

I went for the 128GB over the 64GB mainly because of the added Ethernet port. I agree that the $20 extra for double the storage plus Ethernet is worth it.

I got it when it came out. It’s been great. Had the gen 1 too. Only issue I had is that the ethernet port would stop working. Both the gen 1 and the latest model. I did a factory reset on gen 1 and it would temporarily works. Going to have to rely on wifi now.

We have 2x AppleTV 4K 3rd gen’s and 3x AppleTV 64Gb third gen’s in house. (Living Room, Master Bedroom, Home Office and the 2 kids bedroom).

Honestly they’re fantastic - but only buy the 128GB if you need it. In our living room and master bedroom we’ve got allot of high end home audio equipment and I’m very picky on my 1:1 Remuxs on plex streaming properly…. So wanted the Ethernet but tbh I’ve found even the wireless ones work fine on them (we have ASUS XT8 mesh wifi system in house with 3 nodes)

Also look for used on eBay or FB market. I got all the 64GBs for either £80 or £70 and the 128Gbs for £120 each.

If someone is coming from UAE , buy from there . It is kinda cheap compared to Europe. In my last trip , I bought 128 gb for the price of 64 gb in Europe . Worth the investment for years .

Hey I’m in the same boat as you and probably will buy the 128GB. Just want to point out that it is not a $50 gift card. It’s only $25. The Apple website is deceiving. Here’s the actual promotional page that lists each gift card.

It’s confusing because on the Apple website, it groups TV and HomePod. Just wanted to share so you don’t get mad or surprised.

    Hopefully others see this comment.

    You’re truly overthinking this.

Just wait until Black Friday hits and search online for the best price for the latest and greatest ATV 4K 128GB and call it a day.
