Hello, I bought a base model 2022 13" Macbook Air in August 2023. It’s been 3 months and there has been zero problem till now. But, today my laptop shut down at 20% and wouldn’t start till connected to a power source. I charged it till 25% and unplugged it. I waited until it got to 20%, and it shut down again, and the exact same scenario happened. Can anyone help me with this?

I use AlDente regularly and use my laptop with an external monitor.

According to the directions, doing that a few times is supposed to fix the issue.

(This is why I don’t use AlDente, by the way. I don’t want to be inconvenienced by stuff like this and I haven’t seen any strong evidence that it actually helps with battery health vs. the stuff built into macOS.)

i tend to use my laptop with an external monitor. if i use it unplugged, it drains battery faster than usual, which will end up in me doing more battery cycles. on the other hand, if i keep it plugged, it will stay on 100% for a long time.

do you think this will have any long term battery effects?

Yup, I use my laptop ~90% of the time with an external monitor. The macOS “optimized battery charging” feature does a perfectly fine job of keeping my battery at 80% charge.

I know it doesn’t work for everyone, but it works fine for me and I don’t have to worry about the issues that AlDente can cause if you avoid the “IMPORTANT” maintenance step.
