Hi, I’m a 30F who never really spends on myself at all and I’ve never had any gadgets besides my phone ever. My Mamaw is asking for a big gift idea and she spends up to $400. I thought now was the time to get an Apple Watch I’ve always wanted! I’d like to go with an older model that is MUCH more affordable (maybe like the $200 range?) but I know Apple starts messing up their older products. So any advice on a model to go with that will be reliable for several more years yet not break the bank, a sweet spot so to say? I don’t need anything super fancy just one that does the job, thanks!

I would be thrilled to get a series 6 with the stainless steel.

You can get a series 7 or 8 with the aluminum body for less of course. You’d get texting from the watch as well. Not really important to me though. The stronger screen is more important.

I’d try to get a good deal for S8. Should be close to $200 and will last for years.

The SE is their “affordable” model. It doesn’t come with all the same bells and whistles, but I rocked the first gen from when it came out to last month when I got the 9 because my battery on the SE couldn’t make it through a full round of golf with my Arccos sensors.

I have a series 7, and it still looks just like series 9, and is just as capable as series 9 is.

IMO, this is the model to go with

Just 3 weeks ago i was able to buy a series 7 41mm brand new in box from a website called “datavision”. It was $180 (just under 200with taxes). I think they were getting rid of old inventory. Check and see if they still have them. I didnt want the SE because that one doesnt have the sensors for blood oxygen or EKG.

What features are important to you?

We have series 6 and there have been no really compelling features that made me think I need that.

We recently got a friend a refurbished series 7 and that has already triggered fall detection when they stumble and helps monitor sleep.

Here is Apples refurbished site that has full new watch warrantee. Amazon also has refurbished items with a shorter warrantee.

I have the SE 2nd gen and it’s great for what i need it for also fairly affordable. Got it for hear rate monitor and medication scheduling but i have found it to be so useful for much more than that. It’s great not having to pull my phone out all the time for notifications and you can set up apple pay on it and just tap your wrist at checkout

My series 5 was still doing great as of yesterday when my husband gave me a series 9 for Christmas so I gave the 5 to my son ( as it was the big one , not the " woman’s" now I have the small one which fits my wrist so much better. ) SO series 5 was still going very strong for me. Daily wearer.

I bought a series 6 last year adjust for the ecg but being rather young it never changes. I don’t think it’s critical but an old Apple Watch starts to lose its battery. If I had to do it again, I’d probably go with a new SE series.
