Hello! My native language is not English, but I’m interested nearly exclusively in content in English. However, when I start to browse, only podcasts in my native language get recommended. When I look at in certain category, there is no podcasts in English, which makes it impossible to discover any new podcast unless I know specifically what I’m looking for and search for that. When I go to top podcasts, they are also in my native language. I’m very confused because I don’t remember having this problem before and I’m not sure how to get rid of this regional dependency of recommendations I get. My phone is in English, the podcasts I listen, follow and download are also in English, so I’m not sure what changed.
It’s based on your Account/AppStore region not the phone. Apple Music, Podcast, Books, AppStore and basically everything you pay with the card linked to your account are based on your Account region.
You can see for example that some regional Playlists in Music (like Siri playlists or Today Hits) are written in the Region language on the cover but the name itself below are written in your phone language.
My account region is French so I get French cover name, French Podcasts or French Books reco. Before it was Portuguese so I was getting Portuguese name and reco.
Maybe you could look into a different app. Apple’s app is not the best. I use Pocket Casts but there’s tons of options
Like the other user I also recommend using a different podcatcher. Especially if you listen to podcasts a lot.
I really love “Overcast” app. It will show you every publicly available podcast regardless of region, though there is no discovery feature but you can search for a keyword and browse through the results. A lot of podcasts out there that are no longer active…
