Whenever there is talk about atv upgrades, the threads are full of people talking about crazy decoding and hdrs and dolby atomics and whatever the hell features. I must be the only person who has an old 1080 TV (11 years) that mostly just streams regular shows.
I even have a plex server I play from on my AppleTV for ethically sourced movies and TV, but I don’t care about anything really other than “does it look weird or super pixelated”.
Yeah HomeKit use is definitely worth upgrading and was a big part of me getting an Apple TV when looking for a new streaming device. Also because the latest 4k model 128gb version also has thread on board. It may not be used widely yet, but accessories are starting to trickle out with thread and it’s nice to have a powerful HomeKit hub with thread built in that they could connect to. Camera performance is a lot better with Apple TV as a hub than my HomePod as the hub.
Is this the most usless Apple product to upgrade?
I’m with a first generation Apple tv 4k and I don’t see any real reason to upgrade.

I think it does make a difference with people who use HomeKit with multiple cameras
