Scientists have detected the "fingerprints" of a black hole's event horizon—the boundary from which nothing can escape—for the first time, according to research published Wednesday.

    Curiously, the detection triggered a match against the FBI’s AFIS database, connecting GW250114 to a set of partial prints lifted from the scenes of five unsolved homicides committed in northwest Washington State between 1989 and 1992.
