The headline should read something like: “ Stressed out and future depressed newer generations opting out of building families in world with worsening cost of living crisis “.
I’d wager heavily that it has nothing to do with political views and everything to do with the actual current state of things.

People who are in tune with the real world and what’s going on are reluctant to send new kids into an uncertain future.
People who have been tricked into whatever the GOP/Pedos are pushing are more optimistic/tricked and are having more kids.
The left/right distinction doesn’t apply to people who are basically apolitical. A lot of people are like that. I’m not passing judgement, but it’s a fact.

My comment is based on life experience. I’ve known a lot of people who don’t think about politics at all. I’m not sure why that deserves a down vote. I read about politics every day and I’m firmly left wing. But I’m not representative of the majority. Most people on here aren’t. We’re here because we make an effort to get engage and seek views on another platform.

Sadly the deeper you go into the fediverse the worse it gets, if you disagree at all with Lemmy on any of the mainstream topics in any way, AI, tech, the future, climate change, feminism, renewables, nuclear etc you’ll wake up with 50 notifications as you get absolutely piled on

Just because they correlate political beliefs with the desire not to have kids means nothing. Correlation != Causation.
Have you ever watched the movie Idiocracy? That is more credible than this particular article in my opinion.
You can dismiss the article easily however does it not make more sense that a culture focused on family would have a larger amount of children than one that doesn’t prioritise family at all and instead on education and individual achievement ?

None of this has anything to do with beliefs, race, sexual orientation, alien lizard people, moon cycles, ocean currents or tarot card readings.
Smart people have the foresight to see that the world isn’t getting to be a better place. In fact, it is scientifically proven to be getting worse. Scientists have been warning us about it since as early as the 1920s.
Couple that with people educated enough to read actual peer reviewed studies and you have a massive influx of factually educated young people that don’t want to bring new life into a society that seems hell bent on self elimination.

This is an over dramatization of a coincidental blip found in looking at statistical data. A very far cry from anything remotely factual or definitive.
