Unfortunately, for westerners who know next to nothing about the region or its history beyond Thomas Sankara’s martyrdom, developing countries who’ve committed to a revolutionary path exist as little more than action figurines who can be discarded the moment the sheen of novelty wears off, and once they begin doing the unpleasant things that states struggling for sovereignty must inevitably do.
how it feels when you read something and they say a cool line and youre like woahhhh thats so great how they can articulate something like that
‘Discarded’ as if western leftists arent currently driving boats full of aid into Cuba and Palestine against the face of the two most murderous regimes in history. (Israel & The US)
yeah. writers often use ‘westerners’ interchangeably sometimes to refer to a strain of ‘western marxism’ characterized by hating AES or being overly idealistic but i think it’s kind of silly when it’s used sometimes, since i feel like many people have over-corrected into incessant denialism and disparaging of actually principled and revolutionary western individuals or organizations.
I saw that newer video by boy boy, the over an hour long video about Cuba, it was such an emotional rollercoaster ride I couldn’t help but cry, it was beautiful.
western leftists who have never known how it feels to be in precarious condition due to diplomatic issues when the country who already rejects western hegemony as much as possible signs the ”We will neutrally acknowledge Israels existence instead of pretending they dont magically exist” bill with the rewards for signing such a bill being Nothing
After a healthy-optimist comrade posted about Gell-Mann amnesia effect. I feel you.
I saw that claim on r/Socialism the other day and it made me left that community, again. It seems to me that some people, despite becoming marxists, didn’t interiorize the investigation that they have done in order to reach the truth. Thus when a new question rises, their reaction might end up being not too different from that of a liberal (e.g. jumping to conclusions, relying on vibes rather than materialism), just ‘rooting’ for a different team.
I like this article, it gives a lot of useful context.
I saw it on hex the other day and went searching. Someone corrected op but by then it was almost 300 upvotes. Overcredulity makes us reactionary and we either get serious, vigilant, and diligent or we’re not only buffoons but a disservice to the cause. “Ask” communities are here for reasons.
isnt r socialism taken over by the ACP or just ask socialists
r/Socialism is not taken by the ACP, r/AskSocialists is.
I only saw people in r/Socialism who hate the ACP, and even the moderators removed all ACP affiliated subreddits from the recommended list. Instead of linking r/AskSocialists they link r/Socialism_101 and r/AskCommunists now. Still, people in there can go from ML to basically libs.
In fact, 2008-dated Wikileaks documents show that former president Blaise Compaoré attempted to win favour with the US, by courting a closer relationship with Israel during the Zionist entity’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
compaoré / comprador are close words
I didnt need a wikileak to know the guy behind killing Sankara backed by France was pro-Israel, I just assumed he would have been - the dog doesnt lead the master.
Others do.
Always the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear about this guy.
Pynchon character sort of name
