I managed to install OPNSense and it has been working nicely for the last year or so. Now I would like to use VLANs to segregate my devices. I understand that a managed or smart switch will be needed for this and have been looking at the HPE Aruba Instant On 1830 24x POE, I had almost decided to go for it but then found the Cisco CBS220-24T-4G, that happens to be passive and to my eyes has the same specs as the Aruba, price is almost the same.
I would like to have an AP that works nicely with the switch, so for the Aruba I am looking at the AP25, what would be a good counterpart for the Cisco?
What do you say? I am open to other recommnedations but willl try to avoid Netgear, Zyxel or TP Link if possible.
Thanks in advance!
I’ve done Cisco at home and with business installs and Unifi at home as well. I’d never recommend Unifi for a professional install. But it’s fine for home. I’ve used the CBS-350 and it’s a nice switch. Either will work. Between these two in my kind it comes down to what you want out of your home network. If your looking to use it as a learning experience to move into/up in the IT world, Cisco is the answer. Want easy setup but less flexibility? Unifi. I would put Aruba in the same class as Cisco.
There is no licensing for the CBS series switches.
