It’s incredible how Botafogo fucked up the title. They could very well end up in 6. place.

They lost Luis Castro (who managed them in the first half of the season) to Al Nassr, Bruno Lage came in and they started to implode afterwards, he has been sacked already, but the matches they lost with him were the most crucial ones.

This is the problem with Portuguese managers, they use Brazil as a stepping stone. Of course Brazil have a good championship, is the same language (Portuguese) and they pay good money compared to most teams in Portugal outside the big 4 (Porto, Braga, Sporting and Benfica). Any Brazil team need to put a huge release clause because of this.

They had the best 1st half of the league in history and are now having the second worst 2nd half only ahead of the already relegated America MG.

We had the best defence players some years ago, when Kannemann (not playing well anymore), Geromel (retiring) and Grohe (transfered) were playing together. Today is almost just Suarez playing alone, he is trully carrying the team. One of the best attack and the worst defence in Brasileirão.

They are an old kinda traditional club that got bought and became a new red bull bitch
Nothing against them, they just have a very small fanbase but are very well-managed. They had a very good football director that just signed with Monaco

It’s pretty common for the teams who go further into the Libertadores to sacrifice the Brazilian League since our calendar is insane and most teams don’t have enough players to keep the same level on both competitions. Palmeiras in 2021 finished 7th for example and Flamengo last year finished 20 points behind the winner

Brazilian teams that go far in the Cups end up playing around 70 games or even more.

Brazil is also a really big country and most clubs can’t afford to have a big squad filled with quality players so they end up focusing in one competition when they aren’t close to winning the league title.

They sacrificed games in the league to rest players for the Libertadores. Almost every team does it.
