I just spent 20 minutes trying to find the Apple TV remote. All the remote finder feature did was give vague signals on if the remote is nearby or far. Why has the TV been such an after thought for Apple? It’s also frustrating that I can’t set my soundbar as the default audio output.
I watch it in bed and keep it in a small bag along with other remotes and my iPhone so everything is reasonably together.
I did actually “lose” it once and purchased a remote that I had couriered over from the Apple Store the same day. Since my Apple TV had the older remote, I wasn’t that mad about having the upgrade.
About a month later, I was digging around in my “remote” bag and there was the original remote. It was so small and thin and lightweight that it had hidden in plain sight at the very bottom.
Apple will put in the U1 chip into the next remote and it’ll be a “big feature”. So you can pinpoint exactly where it is 🙄
If your soundbar is connected via hdmi arc/earc then you don’t want your audio output to say your soundbar … you want it to say receiver. If you change it to soundbar then you are playing via wifi or Bluetooth I believe. A bit counter intuitive
Where did it go that it took 20 minutes to find it? If mine is not immediately visible on my couch or on the table next to the couch, then it fell in the couch cushions. I know this because I only use it the couch. Why would I remove it from the room where the TV is?

People reply with this anytime this topic comes up but it was never an issue for me. They left the remote sitting right where they used it which is on the couch or 6 inches in front of the tv.

My TV is in a room where I can watch from the couch, side room, kitchen, or even outside on the deck. I usually know where I’ve left the remote though only really having to search for it once in a while.
I also sometimes carry my remote into the kitchen, but I put a glow in the dark case on it to help find it which sometimes helps

Why would you use your remote which can only control the volume instead of using your phone that can control the volume and the music? If you are using the remote, you have to be in the room with the TV to see the screen.
My Apple TV uses a Sonos Beam for sound and while the remote controls the volume the Apple Remote “app” does not.
The posts about losing the remote are insane to me. I’ve never lost my remote. Even times when I don’t immediately see it, I know it’s under a cushion or pillow by one couch.

I have mine in a case that also holds an AirTag. Precision finding and it’s a bit more comfortable in my hand.
I did the same, and now it’s 2 years later and I’ve yet to lose it. My guess is taking responsibility for its whereabouts by purchasing a case and AirTag means it’s now something I look after and make sure it’s not lost, like putting your keys in a bowl by the front door when you enter so you don’t lose them. Money well spent, I guess.
It’s the best 8$ I’ve spent on Amazon !
because it’s using very basic bluetooth signal strength for location, it doesn’t have the dedicated U1/2 chips that AirTags would have.
Re soundbar that really depends on your setup.
You should just output to TV, and then the TV uses ARC to talk to the soundbar, or the Apple TV goes into the soundbar input and the TV from there.
No need to choose the soundbar.
Now, if you happen to have an old soundbar without HDMI then you still need to pipe the sound from the TV to the soundbar. Older ATV have optical, which might be an option on some soundbars.
Remote finder is a joke? Try AirPods finder lol. Literally sitting under a piece of paper 2cm away from me… CANNOT CONNECT TO AIRPOD! Ran all over the house only to find it literally on my desk
Yep. Drove cross country this week for vacation. About 20 minutes after a stop I got a notification on car play that my AirPods were last seen at the last stop. I’m like oh crap they fell out of my pocket. Got out. Searched around the truck floor boards, all pockets, my backpack in the bed of the truck, back seat… Nothing. Gave up. Started driving down the road and noticed they were sitting in the console next to where my phone sits. Mkk
Remote finder is a joke too. My kids constantly leave my living room remote random places. Even had a case on it. It will say near when I’m at the couch… when it’s on the bar in the kitchen next to the fridge.
There should be a tiny speaker in the remote and not only giving menu sounds but for finding when lost would be great. But then again they should add at least some accessory support with the now USB C ports on the remotes, so yeah they don’t think about it for convenience.
It’s pretty cool that they even offer this feature without the remote having a dedicated chip, but you can definitely take the path of whining about it instead.
Mine works fine the few times I’ve had to use it. It does seem that simply making it beep would have been a better way to locate it.

More than any other remote, my Apple remotes get lost far easier. I have one in my bedroom and living room. Living room is fine, but bedroom includes my work area and that fucker gets lost either somewhere inthe comforter or on the desk every other day.
Imagine getting mad at technology… haha.
I got a backup from Amazon for $10 specifically for this reason. During the last 18 months I’ve used it once.
You can’t have two remotes synched to an Apple TV. Which is dumb.
