I literally yelled outloud NO! Why did he stop! Why touch the brakes?

The wake may have been high enough to get in the intake, the engine could hydrolock sure, but he coulda made it through.

Then on the other side he coulda pulled the spark plugs, run the starter to get the water out and drove to the shop.

Or most importantly, he could’ve put the car in reverse and not gone through the most famous river fording in the UK. There are THREE signs warning of a flooded crossing for a kilometer BEFORE the fording. JFC what a moron.

Cool, I’ll leave it. Were you driving the car perchance?

The oddest bit to me is that he seems to still be going at least somewhat when he decides to brake, in the middle of the flooding, to come to a halt.

Yep, if you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO drive through a flooded area, never take your foot of the gas

He would also have higher chances if he went slower - the wave he created was high enough to get into intakes

My comment is not about speed, use gear 1 if you need but the moment you take your foot off the gas water will get into your engine

Looks like the car started to drift to the side, and he braked because he might hit the railing.

Good riddance to the motor if water got into the air intake.

We’d see it sometimes when I would work as an auto tech. Most of the times the rods wouldn’t get bent and you could purge the engine by pulling the spark plugs and running the starter to pump out the cylinders. We’d change the plugs, the oil, and the air filter and they’d run just fine.

The ones with bent rods usually get that way because they tried to restart their hydrolocked engine.
