This shows exactly what we all knew already: this isn’t about legal vs illegal immigration, and it isn’t about the economic impact of illegal immigration. This is about hurting brown people.
They are spending taxpayer money to keep someone in detention when he wants to leave the country. They are preventing someone from doing what they ask people to do. They spend millions of dollars to put out TV commercials telling people to self-deport “or else.”
When someone tries to do that, they lock him up. They just want to hurt brown people.
It’s also about sending more money to the private companies running the concentration camps.
And using them for slave labor.
Once again, the cruelty is the point. They’re not even trying to solve an immigration problem; they just want to hurt people who aren’t white enough.
A more appropriate headline:
‘This is at odds with common sense’: Judge grants habeas petition after [fascists keep man in concentration camp] who bought one-way plane ticket out of the country [for self-deportation]
As if the rest of it wasn’t against common sense.
Still, a small win. (Assuming “habeas petition” is a good thing here, idk)
