    Why would you pay more to advertise an overpriced brand on a product you paid for?

    Personally I have a bunch of cheap and used bags that I look at and think hey that’s big enough or protected enough to carry item a, b, or c. Usually they come from a thrift shop not a store touted by someone trying to fleece me. Each to their own tho.

    I don’t really buy into the designer bag concept, but I can absolutely talk about what kinds of bags that I use and what bag concepts I like.

    I am a middle aged IT guy and hobby photographer, this has shaped my views on bags and clothing.

    Lets talk about the bag concepts you mention.

    I’ll bring them up in the order you brought them up in your post:

    1. Tote bags, excellent for short use to and from a car, terrible for any longer distance, they occupy your hands and are generally just annoying. 2/5
    2. Cross body bags, there are plenty of designs, to differentiate them from a messenger bag, I will focus on the ones that are on you chest. I find that they look ridiculous and have far too little space to be practical in 90% of shopping. Also, here they tend to be worn by gang members and drug dealers. 1/5
    3. Shoulder/messenger bags, these are among my favourite bags, the only real issues I have with them is the shit ergonomics when carrying a heavy bag, a Lumix S5 with a Lumix 24-105 f/4 lens, a laptop, ear defenders and a water bottle is heavier than you think when carried on a single shoulder. I carried a Thinktank Retrospective 5 for several years when I first got into photography, it was brilliant for my Lumix GX80, though I will admit that it wasn’t a highly fashionable bag… I now have a Retrospective 2 30, but seldom use it as I have migrated to a backpack. 4/5
    4. Mini bags, I don’t really see the point of a bag that can only carry half an iPhone or a single set of keys (hyperbole, I know), far to small to be of any use. Men’s clothes has pockets, use them instead. 1/5
    5. Structured Top-Handle Bags, why not just get a briefcase? Or a nice leather messenger bag? 1/5

    I’ll freely admit that I probably fail to understand the point of the question, for me a bag is about practicality first, styling second.

    I am currently using a Thinktank Backstory 15 as my day to day bag, it is a brilliant bag, well thought out and stealthy enough to suit most events.
