Hello! Let me know if this is the wrong place or I need to change flairs. I’m a SWE without network experience (outside of Kubernetes) for context.

To sum it up, I’ve heard some buzz online about the possibility of setting up a Wifi 6e direct connection between a desktop and a PCVR headset (e.g., https://nofio.co/). I want to see if it’s possible to create a similar setup as a DIY project.

I’ve been browsing both here and in r/openwrt for information. From what I can gather, the remote device can use any Wifi 6e card like the Intel AX210, but since these cards do not support AP mode, I’d need something like this to actually transmit a Wifi 6e signal.

So I guess I’m asking for two pieces of advice:

  1. Is this project feasible? Would I be limited by hardware availability and/or by software support (preferably Windows + Linux drivers)
  2. Assuming there are no blockers, what hardware, software, and general Wifi concepts would I need to know to get started?

Over a few feet, within 5 meters. For bandwidth, I was hoping to make use of the entire Wifi 6e theoretical bandwidth. The goal is 2k 120HZ with DSC so around 4.5 Gbps.
