My issue is there doesnt seem to be a halfway point between what they offer and what I can conceive of that would mutually benefit both of us (a kind of partial situation) and I dont know if its safe to signal to them

It sure would help to know what kinda insurance you’re talking about.

When my car was totaled their offering was a fair bit above market value, but I didn’t want to replace it with a similarly high mileage vehicle so I bought them out.

When I was burgled, I compiled a list of what was stolen along with current market value for identical replacements (i.e. the exact edition of a named album kinda thing, not just “100 CDs”). They checked my assessment, and ultimately settled at my total.

When I was sick I was able to get a lot of things stricken off my charge because they billed me incorrectly. They even ended up comping an entire visit in full because of multiple rounds of billing errors.

If something happens to you and you are turning to insurance to cover losses you absolutely can push back on their initial proposal, but you’ll have to prove why your counter is preferable.

If nothing’s happened yet and you just want to talk to insurance about changing your coverage or something, well that’s all fixed cost–you adjust the price you pay by stripping out coverages you don’t think you’ll need.

If you just want to engage with insurance and have a discussion about “what if I only died like 50% can I have half my policy paid out?” then that’s not gonna fly at all.

So much of this also depends on your insurance provider and how you came into that insurance.

Based on the rest of the comments section, I’m guessing you want a policy with reduced coverage, at a similarly reduced price? You can certainly have that conversation with your agent. Coverage levels are a common topic, as well as cost/discounts available.

Either way, you really need to provide more details on what you’re asking/asking for. We’re all just flailing in the dark.

Im not so worried about them terminating per se its more about continuity and not fucking myself over if its not a real or possible compromise that has been successfully negotiated previously

Theres an enormous amount of grey area so its a very weird situation
