In 1812 we were just sitting around,
Minding our own business,
Putting crops into the ground.
We heard the soilders coming,
And we didn’t like that sound.
So we took a boat to washington and burned it to the groundOhhh that was when the White House was destroyed!
… the first time.
Is that the one where we rocked up and burned down the White House, but no-one ever mentions it because we were kind of preoccupied fighting the French (as usual) at the time?
In fairness the US did achieve the goal of their cassus belli.
The UK agreed to stop abducting Americans into the Royal Navy.
Like standing up to the bully and walking away proud but with a bloody nose.
The US won definitely … even if it didn’t have to win to win, Canada … certainly didn’t lose but didn’t win but by not losing … won, the UK didn’t really care all that much given the whole Napoleon thing and just wanted to be done with it.
The only folks who truly lost were the First Nations, again … as usual.
Oh shit and Spain too, but they lost Florida out of it … and is that a loss?
England had another 1812 war. A little bigger. They couldn’t worry about a little skirmish.
