In late October 2019, 27-year-old Hannah Priest was getting a range of her Year 12 classes ready for their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) exams.

She went into her school’s principal’s office and asked if she could have the following day off as she needed to fly to Melbourne.

“I said ‘I might get drafted or I might not, but if you’re okay just to give me a day off to give it a crack?’ and he said, ‘Absolutely, Hannah, go for it,’” Priest told ABC Sport.

Her hopes eventuated when St Kilda chose her with pick No.41.
