Bro they don’t even understand software.
You’d think they’d understand tech at the bare minimum. But slashing your team of highly technical people who made engines for almost 30 years sure disproves that notion.
they don’t understand humans, or computers, or business, or laws
What do they understand? Money!
Sometimes not even money. Microslop was left holding the bag when they jacked up the price of Gamepass and suddenly it became unaffordable for a lot of customers, and spent billions on a lemon. Sony is actively alienating their supporters, rejecting their largest market, and going all-in on a game that can’t even reach five thousand daily concurrent players on Steam because they’ve also already spent billions on a lemon. Bad calls and sunk costs all around.
In this thread, we each call out a stupid decision Microsoft made in the past!
Microsoft passed on Alan Wake 2.
They bought out Rare and did nothing with them for 15 years. Now they are just “The Sea of Thieves” devs.
Imagine a timeline where they became a 2nd party Nintendo studio instead.
They didn’t do nothing, they did viva pinata and Kinect 🙃
But they okayed Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.
True. Props for that, at least.
I didn’t mean that in a very positive way.
I know there’s a post-hoc artistique justification where Alan is a hack writer and everything in the dark place is only as good as his imagination… but a poorly made game is still a poorly made game, and trying to shove half of a Max Payne action shooter into an Alan Wake game is just asking for disappointment (just ask Amnesia fans about pigs).
I’m still puzzled that they made their masterpiece in SOMA and then wasted years of their life on Amnesia sequels. At least ONTOS is on the horizon.
And yet, they will make billions more because gamers don’t care. They will keep buying their slop and using their slopware.
Gamers do care, they are buying less of their slop and using their slop ware way less
Sure, that’s why profits have been up.
Profits partly went up because of their LMG
(Layoff Machine Gun)
I don’t know about all that, didn’t they develop Windows just to have a platform to play FreeCell Solitaire?
No, it was a GUI designed on top of MS-DOS specifically to import Minesweeper from IBM OS/2.
Windows is a 32-bit hardware extension and a graphical shell for a 16-bit patch to an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor, written by a 2-bit company, that can’t stand 1 bit of competition
They don’t even bundle it with windows anymore 😖
