I don’t understand people who just leave tabs open… like… bookmarks people. Why are you just running up ram usage leaving tabs open? And that’s ignoring the clutter of trying to find a tab when you have a bunch open.
I keep like… 5 tabs open max.
Because I don’t want 750+ bookmarks cluttering up my bookmarks folder? I have hundreds of those too and I like to keep them organized.
Bookmarks are for interesting things and things I want to save for later, not things that I’m not quite done with but probably won’t come back to for an indeterminate amount of time. But that’s beside the point.
Also this isn’t the 90s, firefox doesn’t keep every tab loaded in RAM. It unloads them when they’re inactive for a couple weeks (I think you can change the time frame) and then it just saves the URL and reloads the page when you come back to it. Even if you have a dozen active tabs open, it’ll unload pretty much all but the several most recent.
Finding an old tab isn’t that hard because if you remember a few keywords you can just type it in the search bar and it’ll show you results from your history, bookmarks, and open tabs
You can create as many sub folders for bookmarks as you like and bookmarks are searchable just like open tabs are.
My browsers are set to forget open tabs and browsing history upon closing. I don’t want to see yesterdays shit unless I specifically saved it as a bookmark. Otherwise I would absolutely drown.
That being said: If using tabs works for you, that’s great! Neither way is right or wrong. I just have a hard time understanding.
I have dozens of bookmark folders and subfolders too.
I would panic if my browser closed my tabs for me. I like having control over what tabs I’m done with. I do kind of drown in them though…
gross
You know what I think is gross? Forgetting the name of an obscure person from history because I closed the tab a month ago because I thought I was done with it and not being able to find it in my browsing history
Then just go through the same steps as you did before?
I never leave any tabs open. Only have the most important sites bookmarked. And all my history gets deleted every time I close my browser.
If I’m ever in the position that I need to retrieve some information I once found, (which happens rarely to none), I just retrace my steps and find it pretty easily again since I have more info about it than before I did my search.
Oh hey, look at mr tidypants over here with the clean browser. I bet your room is really near too. You probably keep your desk clear when you’re not using it, don’t you?
*Breaks down and sobs
But then I’d have to bookmark them and that’ll be a whole thing! I need to come up with a good organisation scheme and go through all the tabs! Do you know how many there are?
Or they can just sit in the pile.Tab groups
Or you can just close them and be done with it?
It is obvious you don’t actually need them.
But I might in the future.

Haha yeah same… Not counting the hundreds I’ve gone through previously and 50 active tabs
that’s… insane… why? how do you even find anything?
I don’t, I haven’t looked through in a few months now. I just never close anything. I might need it later!!
Close all of them now. Do it. I double dog dare you to do it. Rip that bandage off. You dont need them, you haven’t for months.
The technology encourages our ADHD tendencies. It takes work and effort to consolidate ones own research across all these different gadgets. I misappropriated a 2014 PC from my mom and didn’t delete anything. Every hard drive on her 10 different computers had more shit that was precious. I just installed Linux on a new partition and moved on.
Meanwhile on desktop: SHIFT + CTRL + T (re-opens last closed tab)
“Bookmark all tabs” is a handy backup feature for you tab hoarders. Whenever I feel like I’ve got too many tabs of sites I want to remember, I bookmark them all in a bookmarks folder with the date so I don’t worry about clearing them all out.
There’s an extension for this on firefox. I think it’s called tab stash.

I never leave my tabs open, my wife does, I close all her tabs saved or not. I don’t want to see it. We,ended buying her a laptop to use because I was over it
Why do her tabs concern you?
It sounds like they maybe shared a computer?
Then they should just use a profile. No account needed, you can just have your own tabs. And if you bind to an account you access everything you started from another device
She would never use her profile for some reason
Did you not have two user accounts? Instead you decided to be weirdly controlling and not give your wife space?
We had two accounts she would never use hers so we decided it was best to get her, her own computer.
