I’m not sure why I bought an Apple TV 4k device when my Samsung TV already has the app. What’s the value of have a separate device for Apple TV?

But what if you have a high end soundbar like the Q990C, would audio quality be good with an ATV? Isnt audio quality better when it’s directly from the TV to the soundbar vs ATV to tv then to soundbar? I don’t want to give up on good audio just for a smoother OS.

I never use the SmartTV software and apps. I always find them rubbish. Possibly android based? Always buy an AppleTV box to go with tv I find it much better.

It’s like asking if someone should buy a speaker system or soundbar to go with the tv when the tv already has speakers.

The Apple TV app and the Apple TV device are two totally different things. Unless you have a high-end Samsung, it is hard to imagine it will have performance even close to the Apple TV 4K.

The apple TV will still be the better choice compared to any Samsung tvs interface. Even on higher end Samsung tvs. I had the Samsung s95b and it’s interface was pretty bad.

The Apple TV box supports thousands of apps, including the TV app (which is the single app that you’re asking about).

    Keep the box.

Oh no you should get the 3rd gen Apple TV 4k.

I love my 3rd gen Apple TV that my husband got me for my birthday. Best streaming device I’ve ever used.

It’s fast, really fast, easy to use and just works. My favorite thing is the continue watching, it knows all my shows I watch. It’s so cool.

    You’ll love i know I do.

    Best birthday gift ever.

    Happy streaming 😀

The Apple TV app on the TV is not an AppleTV, which is more like an iPad that uses your TV as the display. In other words you can download apps from the Apple store to the AppleTV, but not to the SmartTV. Your SmartTV will let you download the more popular apps if they’re available, but they’re not Apple apps. If you like Apple’s interface and controls, stick with Apple TV. If you don’t care, you probably don’t need the Apple TV. I didn’t set up an internet connection to my GoogleTV at all. The only thing that has access to the internet is my AppleTV. That way all my data that is collected/purloined/used without my knowledge is from one source only.

They are totally different systems. Apple TV app is only one element of the Apple TV, which is far superior to the Samsung crap OS (and hardware)

TV apps (built-in ones) are shit. TVs are display units: everything else they can do is crappy

Apple TV (the hardware box) can install apps for streaming services, including Apple TV+ (the service), Amazon video, Netflix… etc and games.

The Apple TV app in your samsung tv will only allow you to watch Apple TV+ content.

I haven’t used the more recent Samsung TV interfaces, but so far I prefer Apple TV’s interface comparing to all “smart TVs” I’ve used.

Have you actually used the Apple TV? It’s not just for the Apple TV app. It’s for ALL of your streaming apps.
