• Part of the problem is Mitch McConnell’s absence advantages the Democratic party since it leaves the vote vacant as absent.

If a special election were had, a Republican would surely replace McConnell, and they would vote on the Senate floor.

This lends evidence McConnell is still alive, and the GOP is unwilling to pressure his administration to step down. It’s a situation similar to Diane Feinstein.

No one gives up power until its pried from their cold, dead hands.

It might be proper to pass forcing officials to step down id they are absent for a set length of time, and to mandate periodic proof-of-life correspondence in order to keep elected office. Confirmations of life and condition by a professional under penalty of perjury during absence might also be in order. But this is all conversation for the post-revolution constitutional committee.

That’s not too bad. Remember when they uncovered a child pedophelia ring, locked up a women and then told us we’re moving on from it.

He’s on sick leave. Which would be totally normal in Europe.

The irony here is that he gets to enjoy what he has worked rabidly his entire life to deny his fellow citizens.

    Fuck this walking corpse.

Yes, that’s one of the things that happens in this violent and inhumane nation. I now live in Europe, and I had a lot more than 75 days of sick leave when I had my amputation. I still have my job and my employer isn’t mad at me in the slightest, because here it’s understood that shit happens and that’s life.

Now the orange felon has made it nearly impossible for americans to leave because the world hates our guts even more. I’d be embarrassed to even go to another country without a short that just says SORRYYYYYY on it.

I certainly would be careful about saying you’re American if you go on vacation abroad. But I’m a long-time expat, and I can tell you if you behave well and you integrate in the society of your choice, people know the difference between ugly Americans and those who choose to be better.

Mitch would croak so fast if he heard that Congress passed a bill giving Americans job protection for sick leave equal to the length of his absence.

Yeah, if what was happening to Mitch wasn’t so exceptional in America then this would be a non issue.

Americans, btw, what’s happening to Mitch is just what happens to ANY PERSON AT ALL in most countries when they are suffering from severe long-term illness and disability.

It would still be an issue because (a) Kentuckians are missing half of their Senate representation, and (b) because his death is obviously being hidden for bad faith political purposes, to illegally deprive Kentucky’s governor of his right to appoint a replacement.

Except that most people in most countries are retired by age 84 and therefore wouldn’t be “off” on sick leave in the first place.

But yes, otherwise, the point stands.

When it comes out that he’s dead but they waited long enough that there is no time for a special election, they should just have the special election anyway, because he was away from his duties before the deadline.

It’s procedural fuckery to get what you want. he would’ve loved it.

No. Kentucky’s governor should just immediately appoint a replacement, because the law requiring a special election was already unconstitutional (according to KY’s state constitution) to begin with. Which is also, by the way, probably why they’re continuing to conceal his death even after the fake ‘deadline’ has passed.

Part of the reason for the deadline is so the special election could be held properly with sufficient time to staff and run it how you’re supposed to.

Regardless of this fucking chicanery nobody should be pushing to give them excuses to water down election integrity or change established rules on the fly. He can be ousted in the midterms.

At this point the deadline has passed for it to matter for bye-elections. If he was dead why wouldn’t they just say so. The whole thing stinks, it hasn’t made a lick of sense from the start.
