After moving house I have FTTP (Australian NBN) getting me 800Mbps on the modem itself.
I brought my ~4yo Deco M5 mesh wifi’s from my old house and unfortunately they get me ~300Mpbs on the ground floor and ~80Mbps upstairs - I assume this is because they are WiFi5 (not WiFi6) and old.
Unfortunately I have no good options for running Ethernet to the top floor.
What is my best bet (around $500-600 AUD) for maximing the bandwidth on the top floor?

Questions:
- Is Wifi6 likely to give be a boost over Wifi5?
- Does the AX value (1800 vs 3200) matter since the modem itself is only 800Mpbs - or does higher AX value also imply better power through the roof?
- Would a directional Wifi system where I can point the antenna at the other unit help?
- Any advice on how to choose between these two devices, or recommendations for others?
1·10 months ago- No. you mean Wi-Fi 6E, which introduces 6GHz, which travels even less far than 5GHz does, so it would only be fast in the same room as the access point.
- No idea what an AX value is.
- No, directional systems only work with line of sight, you should not mesh Wi-Fi at all but always connect all access points via ethernet.
- Use Unifi. Get two U6 access points (doesn’t matter which ones) and connect them via ethernet.
