    From the S3 page:

Based on its unique architecture, S3 is designed to provide 99.999999999% (11 nines) data durability

So either an event with 0.0000000001% chance occurred or they need to rethink how they’re coming up with that number.

Usually “acts of war” and “acts of god” are normally not included in uptime calculations. Additionally scheduled maintenance can sometimes be thrown out too. That’s how the post so high of numbers. It only targets “unscheduled maintenance” or the like.

ive seen some companies include it in a 100% uptime guarantee because they have blue/green and other online deployment methods and wanted to use it as a selling point. So it’s not always excluded.
