The chocolate the soldiers gave them were D-Rations, which were specifically designed to be calorie dense and not too tasty so that the soldiers would actually save it for emergencies.
So, no, not really.
My grandmother sometimes talked about how some Americans soldiers gave her chocolate when they passed through, sounded like a core memory. They really had close to nothing at the end of the war, so any kind of chocolate was welcome, all the more if it was rich in calories.
The Germans deliberately starved the Dutch at the end of the war. I don’t think these kids were too picky at the time.
