“Catastrophic incident that could change humanity’s future” — The incident that they fear the most is that they run out of other people’s money and their fantastically overvalued companies collapse in financial ruin. What a catastrophe.
Oh god won’t someone think of the shareholders value?
Theyre not shocked or surprised. They are literally purposefully causing it. They are accelerationists and they want race wars and they want worldwide catastrophes because they are idiots and hate people and think theyre immune.
Companies building skynet and terminators shocked to learn humanity is in danger.
Companies building skynet and terminators
They’re building shitty chat bots. The damage they’re doing is real, but it’s by the poisoning of our air and water with data centers, and destroying people’s ability to think critically by reliance on the shitty chat bots.
The Terminator imagery and fear mongering about “rogue” shitty chat bots is just marketing bullshit to make their slop seem capable in the absence of actual productivity.
They literally building murder drones
Those are not new - the Navy has been publicly showing off footage of automated drone swarms since like 2012 (the Locusts iirc), and you know if they were showing it off to the public then, there was probably some other system in their pocket that made the shit in their propaganda obsolete.
And I’m not looking to diminish how fucking awful that is, I’m just pointing out that “AI” in science fiction is presented as having a degree of actual intelligence, just one that’s artificial. “AI” in real life isn’t actual AI… it hits the artificial mark, but lacks any kind of intelligence. It’s a spell checker that that’s wrong occasionally.
The murder drones operate at the discretion of code that humans wrote - the drone isn’t culpable, the operator, and that operator’s chain of command are.
The shitty chat bots are a threat to us in other ways.
Nah man you are wrong. You are working off ideas about AI that are from before they had reasoning models and vision capabilities
I haven’t seen any real evidence to the contrary - but I also don’t really want to bash heads over why it needs to hurry up and go die in a fire, as we seem to already be in agreement that it needs to hurry up and go die in a fire, and that’s the important bit.
If we’re not extinct by then, we can sift through the ashes and get a more complete picture of what it was, sans marketing bullshit. Bonus dopamine to whoever’s closer to hitting the mark.
“Preparing for” in the sense of deliberately doing everything possible to make it happen.
It’s like every so step they choose the thing that is line that shouldn’t be crossed , anthropic is building a wet lab for the ai right now
and the musk has space data centers
