@vivaldi_browser I wanted to install your browser but you do not support anymore MacOS older than 13, so i.e. I’m using MacBook Air from 2017 year and can’t install anything newer than Monterey. You do not allow to use updated Vivaldi on older computers. Could you at least suggest which version of browser I should use? But best idea would be to not follow after enshification trend and support also older machines with new updates. Thanks.

that’s on macbooks and whatever planned obsolescence apple came up with, not the software providers.

that just shows apple’s way of treating users with older machines. older macos is unsupported and no one is encouraged to support it.

@umbrella about Apple - yes, but IMHO this argument is again, turning cat backwards. There are still devs supporting older computers. And if somebody want, they could offer software with supporting older machines also.

apple makes it harder is my point, and i don’t blame devs for not bothering when developing for mac at all is already many hoops to jump through.

you can much more easily support older android and windows because they have stellar backwards compatibility.

mac is more like linux in that not targeting the latest and greatest is kind of a pain, except they go to great lenghts to wall you off from it if your device is old.

ironically, the best bet for old macs is windows or linux.

@umbrella I thought about installing linux, unfortunately network adapter in my Mac needs broadcom drivers - they aren’t open sourced, so after updating OS I will have to reinstall drivers (done it years ago on Lenovo). And I do not have router, I’m using only mobile internet so getting drivers would be pain in the ass. Maybe if I will not have any other ideas…

you can always download it on your phone and wire it to the computer. but i think it’s worth it to keep it as is until you have a bit of infrastructure to deal with this, lest you end up without it.

firefox is pretty great in the meantime (the best actually, if you install ublock origin). i think they tend to support older osx for a bit longer?
