I make the case that you actually need three banjos. You need a resonator, and open back and a fretless. Oh and a mountain banjo obviously, and gourd.

Thanks, you might be breaking my bank now.

Then again, I already invested ridiculous amounts of money into my drum kit…

At least one fretless. Also need a travel banjo. And one for playing at campfires. A banjola would be nice. One strung with nylon strings and one with steel strings. Maybe a long neck too. A cello banjo would be fun. 3 is a minimum. If I count my banjo ukuleles I think I am up to 12 (?). Maybe 13? Still not enough.

This is correct. You can combine the openback and fretless if you need that way you can fit the gourd into the list. Mountain banjo is for later

    Nobody really NEEDS a banjo.

But, that’s never stopped anyone before.

    The rule is:

If it’s a musical instrument, and you intend to learn it, it’s an investment. So…… BUY IT.

I bought a trauma banjo once. First of my close friends to commit suicide, senior year of highschool, shit really rocked me(not that subsequent incidents haven’t) and not knowing what to do with myself drove to guitar center and bought a damn banjo. And nobody asked questions, seems like they understood.

I miss mine. It made my baby cry a lot. But someday it will return.
