Is this a hardcoded opt out or something? Couple of months ago I had to install windows for a friend. I tried to not make a windows account. All the exploits I found, were “patched”. I finally just gave up and made the account. My friend doesn’t care enough about privacy and I don’t care enough about windows for all that effort.

But, [email protected] would be awesome.

I’m not totally sure but I would guess that it’s not hardcoded. Probably just buggy behavior, as is usual for Microsoft.

Windows will display a “Let’s connect you to a network” or similar screen. The upcoming Windows 11 version 22H2 does not allow you to skip this anymore to create a local account.

they actually restricted this method, evil

but the installer doesnt cause its written in windows powershell. Had to install a VM just to get the installer to download/unpack the game, then i set up lutris for it.

Supposedly the next version of the installer is going to use a more agnostic scripting, but i dont know if thats come out yet.

I don’t know about these workarounds but I remember Win10 has something like “Create for another person” then “I don’t have their info” and it will just let you create a local acocunt. I don’t know about 11 tho

Also this was one of the early windows 10 updates lol. Like 2017 or something.

How it feels to install windows in 2023 is to drop to a hidden shell and run some commands to create a local account instead of a Microsoft account to log into your computer. Fuckin disgusting.

You can totally automate the Windows install process and configuration. Not even Windows sysadmins should have to be dealing with it manually.

Bill hasn’t been associated with Microsoft decisions in like 15 years. Yes he still owns a shit load of the company, but he’s not the CEO, he doesn’t even sit on the board. He sits in his 16,000 square foot lakefront Medina, WA mansion and gets richer.

I feel like the only think I like about windows is that everything works in terms of graphics and plug and play. Plug and play has been good to me on Linux for a while though.

I still get graphics issues on fedora and Ubuntu on my integrated graphics chips.

As a side note, you can use O&O ShutUp10++ to do all these settings quickly so you don’t have to hunt around all the menus. It has presets too IIRC.

Also it works on Windows 11 too despite the name.
