I fully supported the 3 day /r/ BLACKOUTs by many sub-reddits earlier this week, and I fully support the INDEFINITE blackouts that some sub-reddits have now committed to.

I’m just a /r/ user and have kept my account because of the vast amounts of information I find useful at Reddit. Its one of the only social media’s that I still use… I left Discord for Matrix when they were thinking about selling to Microsoft… I left [personal] Facebook when they switched to Meta (way overdue!)… and I continue to choose privacy and shun big tech - I am leaving Reddit.

While I’m happy that there are now de-centralized alternatives, it is completely Reddit’s fault - they finally chose the mighty $$$ over the user; its users ARE the product, just like every other big-tech social media corporation… its a sad time for Reddit.

I hope that more large sub-reddits choose to BLACKOUT as I think this is a pivotal time for the site; I don’t think enough of US will stand up, but I hope you chose to do your part… whats right…

Just leave all these corporate walled garden platforms and make your own communities on the Internet. That could be Fediverse but it doesn’t have to be. Think outside of the box.

I like the Fediverse b/c its more connected than our old forums of yesteryear, but without big tech breathing down out necks…

As someone who’s inherited/made internet communities before, it’s a lot more disheartening than it sounds. The network effect is real, I’ve found that no matter how good you make your forum people probably won’t find it (let alone stick around) unless it goes viral on 4chan.

I logged out after Friday’s disaster. Today, I deleted my account due to a few factors:

I’ve been bored for months on Reddit. 5000+ subs are closed because Steve is an ass. Twitter, Mastodon, and Lemmy all work fine with a browser. Reddit just sucks without a well made app.

You know whats funny… while I have Apollo installed - I always used Reddit’s main app. :P LULZ - but I fully support them keeping their API open, as it has been for YEARS. I think they’re fully out of line.

Congrats! The only way a protest will work is if we all delete our reddit accounts. A blackout is useless if u/spez just removes the mods and replaces them with his flunkies but deleting your account is about the only thing that can hurt reddit as a company. I’m about to delete my account as well, and make the full transition to the fediverse! Godspeed.

I’ve instinctively typed in “how do i do so-and-so reddit” in my search like a fool a few times, but I’m pretty sure I’m staying on Beehaw for now. It’s nice. It’s comfy. I’ve only seen both literal and figurative unwanted dicks like, one time. It be a winner in my books.

Same. I do miss a few specific subreddits but they are starting to pop up in the fediverse and it’s an easy sub from anywhere.

Oh good timing! I was trying to install Jellyfin and I’ve been having…issues trying to set it up without Reddit, lmfao.

LOL ; thank gosh I haven’t seen that, yet… I hope LemmyNet continues to be developed and takes advantage of Reddit’s ship jumpers.
