Covert government strategy to install electronic surveillance in shops raises issues around bias and data, and contrasts sharply with the EU ban to keep AI out of public spaces.
If they actually wanted to tackle shop lifting they’d tell the police they actually need to bother about it even if it’s less than £200 in value.
That would require them funding and increasing the police force. Much better to offload the cost to the shops to pay for the recognition system and access to the database of known criminals. It’s the Tory way.
