I’m fairly new to lemmy so excuse me if I am telling you what you already know, but I have found out that at times when you can’t get onto feddit.ch due to the ‘server error’ fault, it is still possible to view and post to it from another instance. Create an account on another instance, then subscribe to whatever feddit.ch community you are following and usually it works. For example 2 hours ago when I posted the reply below I couldn’t login here at all whereas now I can (though I don’t know how long for). Maybe this suggests there is some configuration fault with the feddit.ch server that is randomly denying access from the wider internet whilst still allowing it from other lemmy servers, who knows?
I’m sorry for the late reply. Thank you for such a thoughtful reply, and that’s a very good work around that you provided for Feddit.ch communities.
How are you liking it on Lemmy so far? I remember when one of my home instances went down last year, I had backed up my subscriptions there and imported into new instance using the Lemmy Account Settings Instance Migrator tool
However I don’t think it is compatible with instances running Lemmy 0.19 and later, and there might not a need for it since instances running 0.19 and later should have a built in account import/export feature.
Beats me about the possible configuration problems that you mentioned. I really hope the admin is okay.
How am I liking lemmy? Well, the server I chose has been down far longer than it has been up since I joined, so that is not exactly a good start, but I am patient, I’ll wait and hope for a better performance in the near future.
Interesting little tool you linked to on github, pity it is no longer compatible, it might have been useful given the server problems here.
That’s very unfortunate. Up until recently this server has very stable and Lemmy itself is going through growing pains too but I’m sure it will get better and performances will improve as you’ve put it.
I’m glad you’re willing to stick around. It does help to have a few alts though.
Well said about the linked tool.
Do you use any mobile clients or alternative front ends for Lemmy ? It can make the experience so much better.
Yes, I understand that people like myself fleeing from an increasingly commercialized and censored Reddit are causing problems here, hence my patience.

I’ve got Jerboa on my mobile, but I find it very confusing to use so I hardly ever do, anyhow I am not a ‘mobile friendly’ person, I own one but it spends most of its life sitting on my desk switched off. Try not to be too shocked, it’s bad for your blood pressure!
Oh I see, how refreshing to hear this insight of yours!
Wow! That’s totally fine about the lack of regular mobile usage. While this isn’t very common to hear, I’m sure you have your reasons for why this and your current set up works for you.

Well good news today, the ‘server error’ message page has a new look! Perhaps that is progress?
