What’s your threat model? how did you evaluate that? How does your kit cover it? How are you covering the gaps or new threats introduced by whatever you’re doing?
I don’t see much discussion of this, everybody is all training this give your guns to a trusted friend if you’re having bad mental health that, at best. Even generally decent personalities like InRange don’t push back against what’s her face fully endorsing suburban paranoid fantasies but this kind of evaluation should be right up there with “you’re going to carry your gun way more often that shooting it”.
My threat model is mostly just personal protection in a large city, and training to be able to defend myself if I have no ability to escape.
I tried to participate in the SRA, ran dry fire sessions over Jitsi during the pandemic, but based on what I’ve seen, the left is not prepared and does not have anyone who is actually good on “their side”
There are lots of CHUD grand masters in USPSA. I know most of them. There are no out-and-out leftists at the top levels of competition. I’m realistically just an “Okay” A class shooter nationally, I don’t count.
Basically if there was armed conflict, the left in this country would get wiped out.
you should be able to be more specific than this, at least to yourself if you don’t want to post about it.
It’s what my most realistic threat scenario is though. I train in order to be proficient, in order to carry, but even that is as a last resort.
It may be myopic but after my experience with the SRA, I only focus on scenarios that I can do something about. Organizing requires things to get bad enough where we start taking notes from the YPG, and we’re not there yet.
(This is an invitation to discuss further)
sorry, i meant “personal protection in a large city” is kinda vague. the hogs who think they’re living in a cowboy movie say the same thing and terminate all further thought, but since you’re here, i assume you have more realistic expectations and scenarios in mind.
