  • Excuse you for not believing that this video showing a list of known criminals isn’t actually the lowest social credit scorers in town. We don’t check the facts when a video from china gets a scary music and english overlay or commentary in this part of the world, thank you very much.

The peoples of the global north are little more than an audience at this point, especially when it comes to what’s going on where they aren’t. They sway like dead seaweed to whoever holds the best funded frequency. And on the rare occasion that they discover a contradiction inthe general narrative and their lived experience, they choose barbarism.

  • But Sanders has been talking in this manner for years. He participates in rhetoric that only has invasions and bombings as its natural conclusion, but when the great beast starts heaving to start killing people in earnest, he calls foul. This isn’t anti-war, it’s pro-war machine with anti-war aesthetics.

This also means that to the extent that they haven’t evolved beyond him, his audience are turn into a multitude supporting western/Usian foreign policy 99% of the way to hot conflict and getting cold feet there.

  • The one piece of advice that always holds up when trying to inform and convert those around us is simply to hit them where they live. AES just isn’t that, not to mention they’ve probably been propagandised so much since birth they think China, DPR Korea etc are hellholes in the same way they think the earth revolves around the sun. It takes a lot of effort on their part to realise just because the circle peg goes in the square hole doesn’t mean that’s where it belongs.

I sympathise with you. I’ve got old school militant socialists spewing BBC garbage about AES. Best I’ve managed with those old farts is to get them to think we agreed on a middle ground when they just misunderstood (even plain old misheard) something I said and call it a day. It’s quite exhausting.

  • I’m going to chime in because I’m confident I know how they meant and I don’t want to see this discussion get bogged down in “but he didn’t literally boil babies” levels of discourse.

As much as all of us around here they’re around the word balkanise, it’s clear that the imperial hegemon doesn’t need its former adversaries divided into chunks, merely subservient. Japan is subservient, they accepted a deal that would make their exports much less competitive, even though they didn’t have a plan to deal with its ramifications. They accept usian bases in their land, because the constant spill of American rapists and the possibility of an outright occupation are a small price to pay if one of happy as a vassal anyway.

Yeltsin was the same. The drunk fuck didn’t give a toss how much he pissed away the wealth of Russia, or how her people suffered. Unfortunately for the sрooks that got him elected, his successor and his base of support wanted an equal relationship with the west. Even as I say that, I believe (pure conjecture, have no source) they’d have accepted a position like Germany if it came without the ritual humiliation Germans get their kicks from. At any rate, if they wouldn’t just be subjects, they’d be subjected, or at least the hegemon would try.

Anyway I didn’t write any of this with the belief you didn’t know, just to have some clarity.

  • When it comes to any of these organisations, obfuscation is the name of the game. They’ll make some kind of a list or make a note of government funding if they’re pushed enough. Even if they seem to disclose their funding, that’s not sufficient reason to take them at their word. Consider, if a usian non-profit gets funding from the government, who’s going to go after them for not saying as much?

Regardless, the NGO workers that believe in what they’re doing are liberals, they’re gullible enough to fall for whatever western MSM tells them, and people who’re just there for the pay won’t give enough of a shit. I don’t even mean this on the apathetic sense, what snakeoil seller will go out of their way to test the efficacy of their cures?

For the record, I know dick about China and I’m happy to engage with some critique. Hell, I’ll even read through Trot and anarchist commentary as long as they’re not referencing their facts from the great Satan.

So you’re just not going to hear them out, huh? After all the effort they went through to get that BBC hit piece. I mean I kid, but not really, with any real critique trots and ultras can’t provide tangible improvements. They have to resort to imagined faults.

  • I did a search on him limited to results before this week, this is from the second link:

In 1999, Prevost took over the Midwestern Province of the Order of Saint Augustine.

He oversaw St. Rita of Cascia H.S. in Chicago’s Ashburn neighborhood as well as St. Jude parish and Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, where school president Rev. Richard McGrath reported to Prevost.

McGrath was forced out of his position in 2017, after a Providence student reported seeing a nude image of a boy on his cell phone while he watched a wrestling match. He was later accused of sexual abuse by a former Providence student. The Midwestern Province paid $2 million in 2023 to settle the case.

  • All the king’s donkeys and all the king’s spooks know well they can’t destroy Ansar Allah by bombing them, trying to kill them from afar. They also can’t take the risks involved in an invasion. They know the main factor that makes usians wary of their adventurism is corpses coming back. Not only that, they can’t produce the necessary political will for anything more, the republicans aren’t popular enough and democrats can’t talk about Yemen without admitting they never have a shit what the Zionist entity was up to.

All glory to the people and fighters of Yemen!

  • “who’s going to pay for insurance without employers” levels of discourse and what answers I’ve got, you’ve got as well.

Why didn’t Marx think of all this, and why didn’t he consider the worker, whose output is decreased because he sprained his wrist after wanking, all have the same answer. None of it matters. Socially necessary labour time is a reasonable abstraction, based on the fact that a gross total is produced over some time period, which gives us an average time required per unit. Questioning this is the same as questioning average speed over x distance at t time. It’s saying averages and expectations, extremely frequent functions in maths, physics and chemistry, have to be justified every time.

The answer the idiot neoliberal really wants is what divine source of idealisation Marx, and therefore contemporary Communists are using. That’s what price=value is. It’s saying that the deaf, blind and dumb hand of the market is a divine pointer for some ideal number. We’re materialists, we neither expect the metaphysical to affect thee results nor do we ascribe divinity to what is merely a function of the material.

The liberal approach of “whatever is gained is earned, whatever is earned is deserved” is the result of capitalism creating a distribution impossible to justify and work difficult to quantify. Every neoliberal, every SocDem, every fascist hills this to be true implicitly, even if they put up a bunch of caveats when their feet are held to the fire. I don’t think the higher stage of communism will require marketing, but there will still be some service work and they will be either impossible or extremely impractical to remove from the total output. I don’t really have a way to quantify them either, if not labour time. I mean, deliveries made and tables served are one thing, but papers signed, phone calls made, lines of code written? Companies are trying that shit and finding out on real time that it creates perverse incentives.

Honest suggestion: don’t bother. People with a good reason to reject reality will come up with a hundred excuses by the time you disprove one. Trying to prove something to one’s interlocutor’s satisfaction and have them admit that is a fool’s errand almost every time.

  • Super duper nice, good star. Show us where anyone said capitalism wasn’t a stage of final development, anyone saying it should’ve never happened?

You’re comparing a system that lets people suffer unnecessarily with a time of lower technological development. It’s literally apples and oranges, not to mention you’ve failed to address what they meant, something someone else spelled out.

  • r/writingprompts is the saddest subreddit I’m still subbed to. I’ve been there for years, it’s just getting less and less active. What little activity exists is just marvel and fantasy tropes. Superhero this, elves and Paladins that. The replies are frequently run-of-the-mill cliche fests. The saddest part is that the rare gem, the most interesting and unique prompts and the most curious approaches to meagre yet popular prompts get basically no attention.

I just opened it up, top 2 posts are elves and necromancers. It’s beyond unfortunate considering what the community could be.
